    Original Character Background:
Info page for G'rhyf with character specifics

The game itself presents a lot of distinct traits that are inherent to the Warrior of Light: a love of adventure, an eagerness to throw themselves at danger, and a deep well of compassion. The Dark Knight questline shows that they can certainly feel resentful for their nature being taken advantage of, but at the same time that story also shows them actively choosing to still put themself out there for other people. As the game has gone through more and more patches the writers have given players more options for the flavor of how their WoL responds (including the ever present joke of the '...'), but that undercurrent of a compassionate, reckless, and brave person still remains.

    Personality:
The first impression that many people have of G'rhyf is 'boisterous'; they take a great many things in stride, laughing off inconveniences and generally taking a positive view of people and events around them. They're quick to make a joke or find some way to lighten the mood, and will go out of their way to help someone they see in need. This can and has in the past brought more than a few headaches their way, but it's worth it to see people happy once all is said and done. But despite their friendly disposition, they do hold themself somewhat apart from people--even though it's not entirely an act, this persona of the friendly and helpful adventurer is one of many 'masks' that G'rhyf wears, and they are very aware of their role. (Perhaps in some ways, too aware of it.)

When they act as the Warrior of Light, a different facet of themself is brought forth. Serious, solemn, attentive--when the situation becomes grim G'rhyf is one of the first to step forward and put themself on the line, ready to do what is necessary to see the crisis through. Their kindness isn't stifled, of course, but given out carefully where needed; an encouraging word to a drained soldier, or a comforting hand for a civilian caught in the crossfire. They position themself as a beacon of hope, something for others to look toward and take faith in...and hopefully, something for the enemy to focus on rather than G'rhyf's allies fighting alongside them.

If forced into a political arena, however, G'rhyf becomes incredibly awkward. While they have excellent composure on the battlefield, the threat of one social misstep spelling disaster for an entire country is quick to make them panic, and so they find ways to fade into the background and let more skilled negotiators take the stage. Over the years they've learned to not allow their nerves to show...but still their stiff and abnormally still body language can give them away. They are not oblivious to their weaknesses, but in turn they also know the sway they hold with even those in the highest stations of Eorzea--a few words from them said at the right time can change so much, and they try their hardest to make sure that change is for the better.

This need to keep a proper image up, to be what they 'ought' to be in the eyes of others around them, while almost entirely of their own making is also a symptom of the sort of person they are. Anxious, people-pleasing, helpful to a fault and all too eager to give of themself until nothing is left at all. And the reason why is simple: they just want people to be happy. It's what drives nearly all of their behavior, the way the interact with the world and the decisions they make in doing so. They aren't naive enough to think that everyone can be pleased, or that they can fix every ill in the world--perfection will never be attainable. But if they can make things just a little bit better, help bring everyone a little closer together, then it's enough.

G'rhyf is compassionate, caring, and highly emotional--they often feel as if it all might burst out of them at times, and struggle to keep their 'mask' to the sorts of reactions that seem reasonable by comparison. They form opinions fast and hold tightly to them, yet in the same moment try their hardest to keep an open mind. They know their faults and weaknesses keenly, because they worry and self-analyze constantly trying to find the 'right' way to react...usually well before or after their impulsive nature makes the decision for them on the spot.

And behind all this, or perhaps because of it...G'rhyf is an incredibly lonely person. They're keenly aware of the gulf their status puts between themself and most other people, and even other powerful personages are kept at a careful distance on some level or other. There are very few people that G'rhyf feels safe enough around to fully let down their guard, to let themself be foolish and sad and frustrated around. They have a desperate need to be able to reach out to others, to be supported by them just as much as they support those people in turn, and when left without they can turn bitter and self-destructive, viewing themself more as a tool than a person. But when given that love and care they blossom into a wonderfully caring and loving companion--and one that would go to the ends of the earth to see their loved ones safe from harm.

Everything felt very, very wrong. Anxiety buzzed under their skin and burned in places that no longer existed--a phantom ache at the base of their spine, a tingling atop their head that yearned to move. Yet their hands still looked the same, a glance to a window brought a reflection that was...almost right. Their face disturbingly bare but still scarred as it ought to be, their eyes the right color but not the right type. Hyur in all but name, save for the disturbing lack of a sense they had only lost once before.

(crawling through the snow desperate and terrified they had to move had to get up before he found them--)

G'rhyf wandered down the road from the house they had been ejected from not long ago--the confusion and near unreality of the entire debacle had almost felt nostalgic for a moment, in a way both welcome and headache-inducing. Yet what they had been able to glean from it was even more confusing; expected to go on a journey with the small creature they now carried in their arms, in order to...make it fight? And have babies, possibly? The woman had flipped the purpose of their journey over and over, G'rhyf wondered if she even knew at all.

"Oh, my goodness, dearie! I haven't seen one of you looking quite so lost in a long time!"

G'rhyf startled slightly and turned to look at on old woman sitting on her porch, bundled up in a cozy looking jacket and surrounded by what G'rhyf could only assume were felines. Pink and yellow and so round, and a few larger ones with purple markings and some form of...would that be a mane? The woman gestured for G'rhyf to come closer and they did as bade, managing to pull a smile to their face though they knew it was weak at best.

"I think lost might be an understatement..."

The old woman tutted and looked them up and down, and G'rhyf ached to be able to let their tail sway and consume some of their nerves but it wasn't there-- "And looking like you've just seen a ghost! Come, sit down and talk with me for a bit. What's troubling you?"

They sigh and make their way up to the chair next to her, stepping carefully over the cats lounging about and making sure the child-like creature in their arms remained properly bundled in their jacket as they sat down. "This...this isn't where I'm supposed to be. I'm not what I'm supposed to be."

"Oh, you're one of those sorts of off-worlder? You poor thing..."

G'rhyf blinks and looks over at the woman, taken aback by her blasé acceptance of what they had assumed would be an entirely baffling explanation. "A...sorry, I'm a what?"

Over the next hour or so the woman (Margaret, as her name turned out to be) explained what she knew of their situation. Many people from a myriad of universes pulled here by an unknown force, appearing and disappearing again at a whim with seemingly no purpose for it besides integrating themselves into this world for the sake of it. The change to their body and senses was still disturbing, but at least they weren't alone in such a plight--nor should it be entirely permanent. Moreover, talking with Margaret managed to ground them again, feeling less like they were floating halfway out of themself. Once the situation had been explained the topic turned to the stories Margaret had cajoled out of the adopters of her dear Skitties, and G'rhyf was happy to pay back the favor in kind with stories of their own adventures back home--some of the nicer ones, at least.

"...thank you for calling me over earlier," they say after a while, smiling down at their now dozing Ralts and the Skitty that had made herself quite comfortable next to him. "I'm feeling a sight better than I was before."

Margaret laughs and shakes her head, reaching to pat their arm. "No, no! Thank you for humoring an old woman's curiosity! You youngun's are always haring off somewhere, barely a moment to stop and chat with someone like me!" G'rhyf laughs and shrugs, and she leans back into her chair with a sigh. "It's nice to have a chance to hear about what's out beyond this little town."

"If I ever come back this way, I'll be sure to tell you more." Margaret beams, and the warmth of it chases away a bit more of that cold feeling in their chest. "...once I'm allowed up again, of course. She's made herself quite comfortable, hasn't she?"

"Oh ho ho, that's little Miss Dimples, for you! Never saw a lap she didn't love. Why not take her with you?" Margaret tuts and shakes her head, waving off G'rhyf's protests. "No, no, I insist! She's still a little young, but I can tell you're a responsible sort. She'll be in perfectly capable hands with a trainer like you!"

"...trainer, huh?" G'rhyf looks down again at the two creatures--the Pokemon in their lap, and they smile. "He did bid me find new experiences, didn't he...?"

Personality: choose three positive and three negative traits about your character that you wish to highlight. make sure to elaborate. a paragraph for each trait is fine. keep this section to roughly 800 words.

    Powers/Abilities:
Being a JRPG protagonist that is capable of knowing multiple disciplines at once, to say G'rhyf is overpowered would be a fucking understatement. I'm not going to go over every individual hotbar button they have access to because realistically half of those are just 'swing weapon, hit baddie', but I'll go over the basic idea of each job and the notable abilities attached to them. G'rhyf does some level of mixing and matching with abilities between each job, but the more they try to do at the same time the harder it is for them to keep up (kind of like overclocking their aether usage). It can be assumed that any weapon they use is being empowered in some way by their aether, as this seems to be a common practice for any combatant that can channel sufficiently to produce the effect. (Whether the weapon can hold up to all that magical energy is another matter entirely.)

Dancer (DNC): A ranged class that uses chakrams, dancers are largely based around augmenting and aiding their allies in battle though...well, dance! They can choose one particular ally to create a magical bond with, empowering both of them and essentially creating a second nexus from which their wider-ranging effects can reach. This can do some small amounts of healing, but mostly the dance lends strength and fortitude to allies.

Bard (ARC/BRD): Bards are a unique discipline of archery, using the inspiring power of song to carry their allies through battle. Where dancers enhance the physical abilities of their allies, bards bolster their will and hold despair at bay, though their songs can also help to heal or free someone from the grasp of a magical impairment.

White Mage (CNJ/WHM): Shocking no one that is at all familiar with Final Fantasy as a series, white mages are by and large a healing discipline of magic. Conjury and white magic are tied to the power of nature, borrowing from that well of power to tear down foe and rejuvenate ally alike. They can even, at great cost to themself, bring a person back from the brink of death, but true revival is beyond them. (Also G'rhyf is apparently attacking using primal Light now? Don't worry about it.)

Monk (PGL/MNK): Basically what it says on the tin. Monks utilize their chakra, unique ties of aether awakened by combat, to empower their attacks and protect themselves from harm. You got punchy, you got kicky, but you sadly do not have a kamehameha. ...yet. (They can set their fists on fire, though!)

Warrior (MAR/WAR): Essentially the beserker discipline of this canon, warriors wield big fuckoff axes and get really fucking angry so they can protect their allies better. ...no, really, that's explicitly how it works. You get so angry that your friends might be in danger that you get faster and tougher and just fucking heal your own wounds. That anger is called the Inner Beast and it is possible to lose control of it and go into a rampage against friend and foe alike, but G'rhyf has thankfully not fallen prey to that.

Red Mage (RDM): Another huge shocker from this franchise, red magery is a highly unique discipline that combines principles of black magic, white magic, and fencing into a wholly unique art. The spells that they cast are powered entirely by internal stores of aether (a limitation guided by the calamity that nearly wiped out the practices of black and white magic), and the residual energy of those spells is stored in the weapon to be used in a burst of powerful, devastating close-ranged attacks.

There are two other notable powers that G'rhyf has outside of pure combat ability: the Echo, and the Blessing of Light. The Echo has been called 'the ability to trancend the barriers of the soul', and has slightly different manifestations for every individual. For G'rhyf, they are able to understand any spoken language and be understood in turn (essentially speaking soul-to-soul through intent), occasionally are subject to uncontrolled visions of the past (either the past of someone present, or an event that took place where they currently are), and a grab-bag of various small effects that they have personally labeled as 'knowing where they need to be'--being drawn to people that need assistance, having a notion of incoming attacks in battle, having a vague idea of where to look for a particular item, stuff like that. (Yes, this is a joke about in-game indicators, and I'll thank you to let me have this.) The Blessing of Light, meanwhile, is a protection bestowed by Hydaelyn that prevents the corruption of the soul by foreign aether, as well as seeming to grant some amount of physical and magical empowerment through the Crystals of Light that G'rhyf has gathered through their journeys.

    Regret:
They want a chance to talk to Haurchefant again, one last time. Not a memory of him, not a shard or false version--this real soul, with as many memories as he may still retain after his death.

    ⚙ First Impressions
❱ VISUAL: G'rhyf Kett is a masculine-presenting Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te, 5'8" tall with broad shoulders and a muscular build. They have a medium-light beige skin-tone and dark brown hair and fur. Their hair is kept relatively short, save for their bangs which are swept partially back, and the tips are dyed a bright blue. Their natural eye color is an emerald green, but the left eye has been affected by magic--it is now a faintly golden shade of white, and an odd white scar cuts down across it. They have several facial markings in addition to the typical L-shaped ones under the eyes; three sideways teardrop shapes on the outer side of their eyes and a clover-like tattoo on the bridge of their nose. Over their cheekbones are also some very faded stripes, not nearly as dark as their other markings. A diagonal scar crosses from above their left eye to under their right, as well as many other smaller nicks and cuts they have accumulated over the years. Their teeth are unusually sharp for a Seeker--more than just having fangs, all of their teeth are of a carnivorous shape, a fact that they generally try to conceal. The fur on their tail is relatively long and well-groomed, and their ears are similarly well-kept.
❱ AURAL: Their voice has a slight strain to it, as if something might have once happened to their vocal chords before healing over. They enunciate clearly but tend to speak fast, and also tend to get loud when they're excited. Their accent is an odd blend due to their travels, and they have a touch of the Miqo'te tendency to roll R's and hiss S's.
❱ OLFACTORY: Apart from the slight musk that most Miqo'te bear, G'rhyf tends to smell of leather and sweat, and if they have been out in battle often recently likely a lingering scent of blood. They tend toward floral scents for soaps, but nothing particularly overpowering considering their natural sense of smell.
❱ DEMEANOR: G'rhyf tends to come off as polite and friendly, doing their best to keep people at ease and cheer them up when they can. When meeting with important personages (or anyone that they need to have a good opinion of them), they become somewhat quiet and reserved and their body language stiff. Among friends, however, G'rhyf is quick to laugh and joke, and is very much one for casual physical affection. On the flip side, G'rhyf is extremely aware of their potential to be an intimidating presence and does their best to minimize this, even when it is perhaps really not necessary. When in a foul mood they quickly become snappish and snide, while bouts of depression usually remain hidden or muted.
    ⚙ Details
❱ PSYCHIC & PSIONIC INFORMATION: G'rhyf's mind is...a mess, both trauma-wise and metaphysically. Due to the odd way in which their Rejoining occurred, Ardbert's mind and memories are...nebulously intact within G'rhyf's subconscious, at least enough that they can allow his personality to come forward if both of them want it. There is also a section of G'rhyf's memory that has been 'blotted out', essentially irreparably damaged by a surge of magic that left a stain over those memories.
❱ MAGICAL INFORMATION: Being the Warrior of Light, they are obviously in possession of the Echo and the Blessing of Light. The Echo is an ill-defined ability to 'surpass the barriers of the soul' and manifests in many different ways. For G'rhyf, they are able to understand and be understood by anyone regardless of languages used, have uncontrolled visions of past events, and a grab-bag of small effects that they have lumped under 'knowing where they need to be' (sensing that someone needs their help, having an idea of where to search for an item, anticipating attacks in battle, ect.). The Blessing of Light is a 'divine' power which protects the bearer from corruption of their soul, as well as making them stronger and tougher than normal--even compared to other bearers of the Blessing, due to Shenanigans. Outside of the WoL starter package, G'rhyf has some minor abilities as a Speaker (able to commune with elementals and hear them if they are in a trance), and are trained in a variety of different uses of aether, both in a magical and more typically martial capacity. (Their combat jobs are BRD, WHM, DRG, MNK, WAR, RDM, and DNC.) They often combine these disciplines in battle, though using too many different styles at once can put a heavy strain on their body from the precise control and immense amount of aether required to tap into everything at the same time.
❱ MEDICAL INFORMATION: G'rhyf is pretty much covered in battle scars, most of them somewhat faint thanks to the effects of healing magic but many of them still looking pretty nasty. Several scars look particularly devastating--one diagonally across their chest from right hip to left shoulder, a burn scar across the majority of their upper right arm, and some massive claw marks across their stomach and right side. Other than these battle wounds, there's one big scar that is very noticeable: a swath of a burn mark on their back, between and slightly above their shoulder blades. The area is roughly diamond shaped, and from how the scar tissue remains discolored it almost seems like there was once some form of tattoo or similar marking imprinted there.
    ⚙ History
❱ BACKGROUND: Born in Thavnair to a branch of the Corvosi G tribe that fled when Garlemald first invaded, 'G'raehma' was a very curious child that was always somewhat stifled by the isolationist and highly practical sensibilities of their community. While their mother loved them dearly, she was emotionally distant and neither connected well with the other, leading G'rhyf to often seek company with the Arkasodara living in a small village nearby. They absorbed bits and pieces of Thavnarian culture through them, including some tenents of the Hannish faiths (and later on The Genders). G'rhyf still tried their best to fit in with the G, but while they were a competent hunter they always felt incredibly out of place. When they were 16 G'rhyf finally decided to leave home, and set out to explore the world--which as fortune would have it, began with Eorzea.
❱ 1.0: While G'rhyf was in Eorzea and operated as one of the Warriors of Light, they do not remember any of this time. The only remainders of that year are the memory of watching Dalamud break apart in the skies above them, and a burned out marking on their back between their shoulderblades. They were saved by Louisoix's spell, and reappeared in the middle of the Black Shroud five years later.
❱ ARR: Though confused and out of sorts, G'rhyf was able to find steady ground in Gridania and quickly began to make a name for themself. Evidence of their Echo caught the attention of Papalymo and Yda, who inducted them into the Scions. Minfillia remembered G'rhyf, but didn't push the issue seeing their distress over the lost memories. Dealing with Ifrit was a gigantic mess, ending with G'rhyf having to face off against the primal on their own and only barely making it out of the encounter alive. They choose to remain independent of any of the Grand Companies (they got their chocobo in 1.0, Farrok found them again during the first month or so in Gridania). Titan is far less traumatic given the time to plan and actually have a reliable team of Echo-blessed adventurers, and from there things mostly proceed without a hitch. (Haurchefaunt definitely has them confused and flustered, though.) They're not exactly sure how they wound up being the hero to save an entire realm from the looming Garlean threat, but they could hardly abandon these people now.
G'rhyf has...concerns regarding the Crystal Braves, but they think Alphinaud has a better idea than them about the political side of it all and they throw their hat in with him. Alisae's request for help is one they answer with many less reservations--they very desperately want to know more about what happened in the Calamity, in the hopes that some hint of their past might be uncovered--and of course find more than they really bargained for. Soon after that first foray they join the expeditionary force looking into the Crystal Tower, and run face first into some details of their clan's past they had no clue even existed. G'raha and G'rhyf start off on rocky and somewhat awkward ground, but soon strike up a very close friendship as they exchange the details of each side of their tribe.
G'rhyf bonds very fast with Moenbryda--or rather, she bullies her way into being close friends with G'rhyf, since she sees a lot of Urianger's awkward tendencies in them. As their various endeavors gain more and more speed, G'rhyf feels more and more confident in their new place in the world. Bahamut is finally truly dispelled, Xande is defeated, and the primal threat seems to be truly quelled for now. Even with the horrible news of the destruction of the Isle of Val, it's hard to really feel discouraged.
But then Midgardsomr breaks the Blessing of Light, and things all fall apart. Moenbryda is lost, the Sultana is murdered, and the Scions scattered to the five winds. And G'rhyf couldn't do anything to stop it. It's their fault.

-also absolutely just called out the BS they were forcing Urianger into right away
-stabbed right in the feels by that names speech Uri bud can u watch ur crossfire bro
-started screaming internally when the Final Days started in Thavnair and basically never stops until the end of the expansion
-bonds quick with Meteion, hit REALLY hard by her descent
-feels bitter about Fourchenault making up with the twins, feels weird about feeling bitter, hasn't yet made the connection between his callousness and their strained parental relationships
-cries at least five times during Aitiascope trek, gives Venat a hug before she dissipates
-knows right after Urianger and Y'shtola sacrifice themselfes during Ultima Thule G'raha intends to be next, doesn't let go of his hand until the very end, 'You say it, I'll do it'
-1000% cried when Emet tells them it's safe to summon everyone back again
-sang for Meteion all through The Dead Ends and The Final Day, bardsong of hope and recovery trying to reach out to her
    -'That, I can't deny.'
-kind of maybe actually died for a hot second out there? definitely was recovering for like a month afterward
-when Scions split goes to visit their clan for the first time since leaving, invites G'raha to come with them, after that is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ plans are for losers

    ⚙ IC Permissions
❱ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: hi yes this catte lov to hug plz do--seriously, if your character is on good terms with G'rhyf they WILL hug the fuck out of you. Or just hang all over you like an asshole, if it's funny.
❱ RELATIONSHIPS: While they do have a committed relationship in their canon (hi, Raha, wassup), they are polyamorous and I'm open to things developing if G'rhyf happens to catch feelings for someone. (Also if a G'raha player doesn't wanna do romance, I'm fine dropping that aspect!)
❱ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Bro, their entire job is to fight gods, they're good for it. ...like, scary good. If we don't have nerfs on you might want to call for backup, just sayin'.
❱ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: G'rhyf suffers from social dysphoria and is very paranoid about being perceived as a female. (Very specifically being female, not being feminine.) Given that their body plan has become very masculine, this isn't likely to come up, but it's something to keep in mind regardless. There is another trigger that is somewhat related that could come up depending on canonpoint, but it's Big Spoilers and the sort of thing that should be talked about first before being threaded anyway.
    ⚙ OOC Permissions
❱ BACKTAGGING: I'm slow as all hell, so this is kind of a necessity.
❱ THREADHOPPING: Go right ahead! I don't mind at all.
❱ FOURTHWALLING: Yeah, sure, I'm here for it
❱ OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS & TRIGGERS: I have no personal triggers!
❱ ANYTHING ELSE? G'rhyf is nonbinary and uses they/them and he/him pronouns! While I'm fine with IC confusion or conflict over this fact, I would appreciate it if the correct pronouns are used OOCly.
